Are you properly covered by licences to show videos/dvds in your childcare setting?

Do you show videos and or DVDs within your childcare setting? You do require a licence! Videos and DVDs are intended for home use only, so if you do provide activities that offer children a choice of videos and or DVDs then a licence will be required.

However if you are based in a school, hospital or any public building that offers similar entertainment, the good news is you may be covered, as the entertainment licence covers the building and not the individual activity. So once a particular licence has been bought, all related activities that take place within the building are automatically covered. However please check.

For all those settings who are running from buildings used only by your childcare provision, then you are responsible for obtaining all relevant licences to cover you. The penalties for not being covered include a £5,000 fine or six months imprisonment under the terms of the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988.

For those providers who are required to buy a licence you may need more than one and from different licensing companies........

Get ready for your ofsted inspection - helpful hints

All childcare providers should have received information from Ofsted Early Years about last October's changes to the supporting criteria of the National Standards.

Providers risk an ‘inadequate’ outcome at their next inspection (even if the rest of the provision is good) if they do not adhere to these changes in regulations.

Funding has been made available to schools across County Durham to help support healthy eating at breakfast clubs.

To address the issues around improved health and wellbeing for school aged children Durham County Council has been working in partnership with Primary Care Trusts and schools to tackle some of the causes of ill health and low attainment.

Schools across the county are being encouraged to be ‘Healthy Schools’ by working towards achieving National Healthy School Status which is awarded by the DfES and Department of Health and based on schools meeting minimum criteria in the core themes of PSHE, Physical Activity, Healthy Eating and Emotional Health and Wellbeing.
